iPhone gets update, dropped from AT&T, and hack alert
Jul 27

The Apple iPhone is one of the biggest sensations to hit the tech market in a long time.   Even with its glitches and high price tag, it’s selling faster than anyone expected.  How does the iPhone hold up to other smart phones?  Everyone may have a different answer, but most will agree that it holds its own.

The camera is not the best on the market, but Steve Jobs has been quoted as saying that its not designed for that purpose and the user is better off getting a “real camera”.

The current evolution of iPhone does not have a removable battery, which can become a security issue.  There is no voice dial feature and a lack of video.  But with the iPhone shacking the industry and teaching consumers a new way of seeing and doing the cell phone, it is definitely having an effect.

The iPhone is great for Web 2.0 functions.  It is extremely user friendly - offering convenient touch screen options for the address book and other features.  Even more exciting is that Apple is already in the process of making a new evolution of iPhone that will offer more, bigger, and better.

Apple may have been looking for a niche market share with the introduction of the iPhone, but they found consumers that were eager for something different and willing to pay the price.

How does a battery become a security issue? Does a removable battery prevent the phone from being stolen or hacked?

If it is the loss of power, i’ve seen batteries that can plug into USB devices to power them up, so having an external battery can keep the iPhone or whatever device going making for a UNIVERSAL external battery rather than a specialized internal battery.

Replacable batteries can also lead to an increase in the number of batteries polluting our planet as people discard them. Whether it is batteries that fit into the phone or are external, it boils down to the same thing anyway.

This battery stuff being a problem for the iPhone or iPod is pure FUD and BS.

That doesn’t mean to say the Apple battery is any more environmentally friendly. I’d hardly call the fact that it isn’t removable a good thing either, as it’s going to be a problem for consumers who need the battery replacing - without having to return the iPhone to Apple. No one here ever had anything lost in the post? I’d call that a security issue.

Niche market indeed. Reports indicate most iPhone buyers are happy with their purchase.

Getting a batter lost in the post isn’t a security issue, Bob. :)

Apple’s record with security is second to none, except perhaps FreeBSD - not surprising seeing as the Apple OS X is based off it. :)

I read that corporate users of smart phones are encouraged to remove the batteries when the phones aren’t in use. This does prevent hacking (especially in the case of snooping software).
